The Chauvet Cave and the Ardèche Gorges — Half-day tour

Circuit Touristique The Chauvet Cave and the Ardèche Gorges — Half-day tour

A tour in the footsteps of prehistoric man in Ardèche, featuring the discovery of the Chauvet Cave, the oldest decorated cave in the world, and a section of the Ardèche Gorges.

Tour overview

Chauvet Cave 2 is the replica of the cave discovered in 1994 by three cavers. The 250 m² cave reproduction features hundreds of animal drawings dating back 36,000 years. Some of these depictions are unique in Palaeolithic cave art. The Chauvet Cave site is the oldest cultural site ever listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, having received this distinction in 2014. On the way to or from the cave, you will discover part of the Ardèche region with its hilltop villages and the most spectacular viewpoints over the Ardèche Gorges, including the Pont d'Arc — a natural stone arch standing 54 metres high.
